Sunday Outreach
Our Story
In September of 2012, a small group of willing volunteers started traveling to downtown Indianapolis on Sunday afternoons after learning about the homeless camps that existed within the city and the tremendous needs of the people that lived within them. Guided by faith, the group had initially set out to meet the immediate needs of the homeless population, but found very quickly that the individuals within these camps were looking for more than a hot meal. The group's consistent presence and approach of unconditional love and acceptance quickly broke down the social barriers that existed, which allowed the opportunity for trusting and lasting relationships to be created. It has been within these relationships that the true needs of those we serve have been discovered, which in turn has guided the mission and focus for Food 4 Souls.
Ways to Impact
Provide Sunday Meal
This opportunity provides sandwiches or a hot meal to feed 175 adults during each Sunday outreach. You have the option to provide deli turkey and/or ham sandwiches with cheese to provide needed protein and nourishment. Or a hot meal containing a good source of a protein.
Desserts are always welcome and give an additional touch of sweetness. Providing both items is a blessing, but not required.
Volunteer Opportunity
This opportunity entails serving lunch to our neighbors at various homeless campsites across Indianapolis. You will meet the Food 4 Souls Outreach Team at 12:00pm at Heartland Church. Heartland Church is located at 14900 E. 126th Street.
Please note, a parent or guardian must serve with a volunteer between the ages of 15-18. We ask that first time volunteers serving with their family serve the 2nd or 3rd Sundays.
Stock the Bus
This opportunity allows participation right from home. We are always in need of certain items that are stocked weekly on our bus to provide to our community. These supplies are in high demand. Use the link below to shop for as little or as much as you would like, and the items you pick will be delivered right to us.
Donate Clothing
This opportunity encompasses the idea of giving without spending extra money of your own. We can always use gently used clothes for our friends on Sunday Outreach. We accept donations of men and women's jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts and shorts. Sneakers and boots for both men and women are also in demand.
